Argus US Colonial pipeline ULSD
Ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) on the US Gulf coast has become the clearing market for diesel in the US, Europe and many Latin American countries, making ULSD perhaps the most globally traded fuel available. Recent refinery expansions in the US Gulf coast were directed at optimizing ULSD output to take advantage of export opportunities from the US to Europe and Latin America and to increase shipments into the Colonial pipeline system. The Colonial pipeline ULSD market is the most liquid diesel market in the US, representing at peak times more than 800,000 b/d of spot market trades.
Argus’ clean products methodology has been widely accepted by the industry as being the most representative. Argus Colonial pipeline ULSD prices are used in long-term contracts, downstream pricing, transfer pricing, spot sales, and increasingly in the US Gulf coast export market. Argus Colonial pipeline ULSD prices are used as a clearing index for CME-listed swaps.
Argus Colonial pipeline ULSD assessments are calculated using a market-appropriate methodology based on every spot trade available over the entire trading day. Prices are represented as the low and high, and volume-weighted averages of deals transacted, and differentials are indexed to the CME Nymex settlement price.
